Thursday 6th June 2019 marked the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and the Battle of Normandy, the largest seaborne invasion in history.
In conjunction with Arena TV, Broadcast RF deployed wireless camera equipment in both Portsmouth and the Bayeux War Cemetery in Normandy.
Additionally, the ‘Voyage of Remembrance’ saw around 300 D-Day veterans embark on an expedition aboard Fred Olsen’s MV Boudicca which took the same route as the Battle of Normandy and included a fly past of RAF aircraft, past and present, (including a Spitfire, Voyager, Typhoons and the Red Arrows), as well as a sail past of Royal Navy vessels.
As part of The One Show’s coverage of this Voyage, three cameras were deployed on board the Boudicca, all relayed via a camera helicopter to an OB of the Isle of Wight, before being fed back to The One Show studio in London.
Precise numbers are unknown, but it is estimated that over 11,000 allied aircraft and almost 7,000 allied vessels were involved in D-Day, while the total number of allied troops exceeded 150,000.
