The 2018 Commonwealth Games took place in Queensland (Australia) this April, and to mark the Commonwealth Handover an amazing 6 minute one shot film was made in Birmingham (UK) where the next instalment of the Games will take place in 2022.
The shoot required a small and lightweight transmitter for a Motion 24 supplied Movi rig, involved two technocrane handoffs with two vehicle transitions and had 11 distinct locations in and around Birmingham’s Victoria Square, including inside the Council offices and the Town Hall. Facilities were provided by CTV OB and the production included a six man camera crew.
Antennas positions were key to ensure the robust picture for the shoot – we had antennas in the Council office, on the outside balcony of the Town Hall, on an office building opposite the Town Hall and at the lower level of the square which resulted in seamless coverage throughout.
Nobody imagined that this would be such a unique production, but it was executed in remarkable fashion. Around two thousand performers took to the streets of Birmingham and it is estimated that a TV audience of up to one billion people tuned in to watch the action unfold.
The Birmingham Commonwealth Games take place in four years’ time, over a period of 12 days in July/August 2022.
