Monday 4th March 2019 saw hundreds of mourners line the streets of Stoke-on-Trent to bid a final farewell to England World Cup hero Gordon Banks.
Held on the 47th anniversary of Stoke City’s 1972 League Cup final which Banks played a pivotal role in, a five-car funeral cortege passed through Stoke City’s bet365 Stadium where it stopped briefly for a round of applause, before moving on to Stoke Minster where the funeral was held.
Broadcast RF provided a HD RF link between the two venues and transmitted footage from the service at Stoke Minster back to the bet365 Stadium, where it was shown on a big screen as thousands of fans turned out to pay tribute to the former England goalkeeper.
Gordon Banks made 679 appearances during his professional career, won 73 caps for England, and starting every game of the nation’s 1966 World Cup victory. He died in his home aged 81.
