This October saw Leeds Rhinos take on Warrington Warriors the Super League Grand Final, a repeat fixture of the 2012 Challenge Cup Final where Leeds were defeated by a truly dominant Warrington side. Leeds Rhinos have made their way to the Super League Grand Final more than any other team in the last decade, and after the 2012 Challenge Cup Final this fixture was sure to be one to remember.
As usual Broadcast RF were on site to supply RF facilities and engineering expertise. 3 HD Wireless Systems for Thompson Cameras were deployed. Each used our own design lightweight camera back as well as Vislink’s video transmission equipment and Gigawave’s new camera control system which provides far greater control of the camera’s features than ever before.
Warrington regularly take an early lead regardless of their opponents, and they lived up to their reputation when they took the lead in the first four minutes. Leeds Rhinos have a great record at Old Trafford, and somehow managed to turn the score around to make everything level at half time.
Four minutes into the second half Warrington took the lead again, but with just over 20 minutes to play Leeds really started to up their game. For the final 20 minutes of the match of Leeds found the score sheet, and with a final score of 26-18, their title was retained by a total of 8 points.
In addition to the 3 HD Systems, we supplied 2 RF monitors, which gave the presenters the freedom to work anywhere in the stadium whilst being able to view the program output. This is a great facility, which has been enjoyed throughout the season by the Sky Sports team as part of our long term provision.
As well as being shot in HD the match was also covered in 3D, and as part of this presentation we provided a complete solution for the Sony PMW TD300 3D camera including the camera itself. Broadcast RF have been at the forefront of developing a quality RF System for this camera and have been involved in numerous shows to date with great success. This show was no exception. The system worked perfectly and with our integrated manufactures RCP control, convergence control and high quality dual encoded HD video link the camera was seamlessly integrated into the production.
Leeds Rhinos have now won seven of their last nine of their Grand Slam Finals, and the question has to be asked, will a Rugby League team ever perform with such consistent brilliance again? Roll on next season and the world cup to follow…
