As the Olympics draw near, the test events are becoming more and more frequent in the build up to the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Broadcast RF participated in the UCI World Track Cycling Championships the weekend of the 16th – 19th February, which took place in the newly constructed Velodrome situated in the North of the Olympic Park. With 2x Link Radio Camera Systems and an On Board Durney Bike System, Broadcast RF were there to broadcast this important event reminding us that the Olympic Games are closer than we think.
The test event consisted of 340 riders from 48 nations and 18 trade teams battling it out across 4 days of intense competition. Some of Great Britain’s most well known cyclists and gold medallists competed in this event such as: Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Jason Kenny, Geraint Thomas and Ed Hardy.
As well as being a World Cup and the penultimate qualifier for London 2012, the event was extremely important in testing London 2012 Organising Committee operations ahead of the Games. Key testing elements included testing the track, athlete flows in the venue, results and timing systems, sport presentation, as well the 1000-strong workforce and volunteers.
The UCI Track Cycling World Cup has now given us a glimpse of the atmosphere and excitement we can expect in the Velodrome this summer when the Olympics start later this year.
