Broadcast RF’s VeloVue HD onboard RF camera made broadcast history again this weekend by making its debut on the elite road racing circuit, for the Womens Grand Prix at the Prudential RideLondon cycling event.
Working in conjunction with EurolinX and Century TV and with the success of the VeloVue HD at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships earlier this year, live footage was transmitted directly from the bikes of elite cyclists Laura Trott, Giorgia Bronzini and Emma Johansson.
Consisting of a full HD camera and wireless transmitter, the equipment is small and lightweight enough to be mounted on a bicycle with no impact on the rider. This brings a whole new perspective to road racing that has never been seen before.
This year saw Italy’s Barbara Guarischi beat American Shelley Olds in a sprint to the finish line with Britons Katie Archibald and Laura Trott finishing sixth and eighth respectively over a course that looped around St James’s Park
In addition to the VeloVue HD on board cameras, two HD wireless camera systems were supplied for BBC coverage of the event, operating at the start and finish line of the race, which included the RideLondon-Surrey Classic on Sunday 2nd August.[wpsgallery]
